Dogs are extremely intelligent animals. They actually have the intelligence of a two to three year old child and can learn upwards of 200 to 300 words. Many times, behavior problems develop because we fail to provide healthy mental stimulation for our pets or we are not communicating with them in a manner in which they understand. Left to their own devices, they often come up with forms of entertainment that are not to our liking.

Using positive reinforcement training, my objective is to help you communicate clearly with your dog and establish an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. I will work with you to train your dog, employing a combination of obedience training and behavior modification techniques. Finding a proper motivator, such as food, toys, or physical praise, for your dog is essential for training success. I utilize that motivator to shape a particular response to a command. If food is being used, I will show you how to eliminate its use to get reliable responses to commands. My training techniques are adapted to each individual dog/family situation. They are based on the temperament of the dog, and your particular goals of having a happy and reliable pet.

I have focused my efforts on private training and consultations to afford complete flexibility in training styles and techniques, and to schedule appointments at your convenience. Most sessions begin in the privacy of your home. This provides a familiar environment for training and an introduction to distractions at a pace where your dog can be successful. Once your dog is ready, private training gives you the opportunity to train your dog wherever you want to take them; such as to the beach, a park, going for a cup of coffee, or for a stroll in your neighborhood. I will work with you to provide practical training for every day life.
